A woodland perennial with attractive lush foliage and long wand-like racemes of small white flowers in midsummer. Virginia Knotweed is an excellent option for woodland gardens. Its tendency to form tight, dense stands makes it an excellent groundcover option in shaded spaces. Some leaves, particularly those produced early in the season, have a bronze-colored V-shaped marking across the center. The flowers are visited by some bees and wasps, and the seeds are eaten by songbirds, gamebirds, and small mammals.
Virginia Knotweed grows in partial to heavy shade. It does best in loamy soil with average to high moisture content, but will tolerate some clay or sand. It reaches heights of 8-24” before forming its elegant inflorescences.
