Local Ecotype
Annual
Full
Dry to Medium soil
To 4’ tall
Blooms late summer to early fall
A stunning prairie annual with variegated green and white blooms. This effect is largely created by the colorful leafy bracts that attend each small flower. These flowers open in early fall, attracting pollinating insects, and seem to be particularly interesting to flower beetles. The foliage emits a sticky white latex when bruised. This species has good drought tolerance. Snow on the Mount has capsules that burst and fling the seeds when ripe, helping this annual to reseed itself. Grows 2-4 feet. Prefers full sun and average moisture.
