Local Ecotype

  • Perennial

  • Part sun to light shade

  • Medium to dry soil

  • 12-30” tall

  • Blooms in fall

One of our most compact aster species, found in open, rocky upland forests. Beginning as a tight rosette of leaves, it grows a delicate, wiry bloom spike that is quite large by comparison. Despite its common name, local ecotypes of this species can range from a light lilac color to deeper blue and purple shades. This species does not spread through runners and is good for tight spaces, with good drought tolerance and adaptability to light shade.
