The only columbine species native to eastern Oklahoma, with compound leaves and pinkish red flowers in spring. Local ecotypes of this species tend to exhibit dwarf characteristics, paler flowers, and a preference for rocky soils. Suitable for rock or crevice gardens, and often found growing directly from limestone boulders. Needs moist but well drained soil, preferably with afternoon shade.
