An attractive cool season perennial forest grass. Hairy Wood Brome begins growth in early winter, remaining a low clump of vegetation 6-12” high until it sends its elegant, arching inflorescences in late spring, which may reach several feet tall. This grass is an excellent accent in shade gardens. Hairy Wood Brome is found in a variety of forested habitats and boasts moderate drought tolerance. Although it is generally partly evergreen, it may temporarily die back during extended hot dry periods. Cool season grasses are an excellent food resource for wildlife when few other green things are available. Best planted in part sun to medium shade.
