A versatile, dark evergreen woodland sedge with pleated leaves. Closely resembles the non-native Mondo Grass widely used in landscape design. Wood Sedge looks very appealing as a matrix planting or as a border. Its blooms in spring, while not showy, do hold visual interest, as do its rounded seeds. Its thick fibrous roots provide effective erosion control.
Common Wood Sedge grows best in full sun to medium shade, with average soil moisture. Tolerates occasional flooding for brief periods. When grown in dry full sun conditions, it may bleach to a yellow-green hue. This sedge may reseed and colonize disturbed open soil. Tolerates light foot traffic, may be grown along path edges. Mature clumps may reach 12-18” in diameter.
