A premier pollinator plant and Monarch host. One of the showier species of milkweed, producing clusters of brilliant orange flowers in late spring to summer, followed by slender pods. This perennial has excellent drought tolerance. The long taproot one was used for various kidney and other ailments. Butterfly Milkweed requires full to part sun and well drained soil. It readily tolerates soil that is dry, rocky or sandy. Grows 18-30” tall while in bloom.
